In Memorium - John M. Allison
13th October 1935 - 14th October 2015

Many people in Droughty Ferry, and not just the members of St Stephen's and West, were saddened by the loss of our dear friend John. A loyal colleague, a valued companion and above all a much loved family man, a meeting with John invariably left you in better spirits than before. Even during his final years, battling first with a stroke and then facing cancer, he refused to let things get the better of him. He remained to the end unfailingly courteous and always with a kind word to welcome visitors.

But John wouldn't want us to wallow in grief. It's the fun side of his character that comes most readily to mind. A senior elder, he was admirably suited to be Convener of the Church Social Group, a post he held for several years until his stroke intervened. Who could forget those memorable cheese and wine 'tastings' he organised in the Church hall? (This was before the days of the breathalyser.) Not only did we sample the exotic cheeses and sip the rare wines, John even gave us tips on opening the bottles!
Helped by the support of his wife, Moyra, and his loving family, John made it to this 80th birthday. He leaves us with fond memories of an unforgettable life.
